Celebrating 100 years of growth, service and innovations.

From our modest beginnings in East Stroudsburg to one of the largest community banks headquartered in Pennsylvania, ESSA Bank & Trust has always been committed to delivering the highest levels of service and value. Today, we combine the friendliness and agility of a local bank with the technology and resources of a large financial institution, to provide our customers with personalized banking services that allow them to efficiently manage their money, make the most of new opportunities, and reach their financial goals.

1916 - 2016: A century of service

1916 - 2016: A century of service

In the 100 years since John Gish and his associates opened the East Stroudsburg Building & Loan Association to support local homebuyers, we’ve never wavered in our commitment to the communities we serve. Originally formed to provide affordable residential mortgages to the people of East Stroudsburg, we have continuously grown to meet the changing needs of the community. More recently, our values of quality, stability, integrity and trust led us to transition from a privately held bank to a publicly traded corporation, fueling even greater expansion and enabling us to provide better service to the people of Eastern Pennsylvania.

With 26 branches from Scranton to Plymouth Meeting and assets of $1.8 billion, ESSA is now one of the largest banks in Pennsylvania.

100 Years of Giving Back

ESSA has a long history of supporting the communities we serve. We have reaffirmed that support with funding exceeding $12 million to local non-profits through our charitable foundation; supporting organizations and causes such as community health, housing, education, arts, and parks and recreation. Many of our employees generously give their time, too—volunteering more than 8,500 hours per year at more than 100 local organizations.
